With most of the UK craving some kind of summer escape, it is looking more and more likely that staycations will be the way forward in 2021. UK holiday firms expect a ‘staycation boom’.
Even if travel restrictions are lifted in time for summer allowing families to travel abroad, studies have shown that many still feel nervous about travelling outside of the UK and will stick to staycation style breaks in 2021. This is heightened by the uncertainty over when exactly lockdown will end, with many holidays abroad needing to be booked fairly far in advance, staycations sound lot more reliable. After all, in the worst-case scenario, cancelling a staycation booking is likely to be a lot less difficult than cancelling flights, accommodation, car hire and more.
2020 was an extremely difficult year for the tourism industry, but at least things are finally looking up.
It has also been reported that under Boris Johnson’s plan for lifting the current restrictions, staycations could go ahead even in time for the Easter break. This is dependent on the R-rate levels over the next few weeks and months.
The next government update regarding current restrictions is expected to go ahead on the 22nd of February, which we hope will give holiday let owners a better idea of what this summer holds.
